On the last day of the 1977/78 Bundesliga season, Otto Rehhagel's team were annihilated 12:0 by Gladbach at Duesseldorf's Rheinstadion. It remains the highest score in Bundesliga history. Rehhagel had to go, goalkeeper Peter Endrulat never played for BVB again and moved to Tennis Borussia Berlin that summer.
